The Basic Bits of Target

Ok, well Target is pretty simple. They allow you to "stack" coupons, which like mentioned before, is a great way to get items for free! I will say this tho, when shopping at Target and checking out, you want to try to pick the "right" checker. Don't go to someone that hates their job. Try to get someone who is friendly and helpful because many times the Target printable coupons do not scan and you want them to know how to and are willing to manually enter the coupon. So be sure to at least try to get someone that will help you out.

With that said, you can go here to print Target's coupons. Ocassionally you might receive a target mailer thru snailmail, possibly called "Flip. Clip. Save." Yet no one has or can figure out who or why people get these. It's pretty random and just because you get it once, don't mean you will get it again. If you do get it, be sure to save it because not everyone gets those coupons and many times they are for products you can't always find coupons for.

Alrighty then, now that Target has been explained (I'm sure I'll add or update as I think of more) let's move on to the deals you can score.... you'll be surprised at all the things you can get at Target!!!

The Basic Bits of Coupons

Couponing doesn't have to be difficult. Although at times it seems overwhelming and too much to handle, once you do it you catch on pretty quick.

There are a few different kinds of coupons you can get.

Printable coupons are coupons you can print from the internet. When printing coupons, if you hit the back button 2 or 3 times after the coupon has printed it will print a second coupon. Normally this is the max limit. *a little helpful hint: if you have access to more than one computer (such as desktop and laptop, or work and home, etc) you can print 2 from each computer -- this tends to be a GREAT help when needing to print many of the same coupon*

Sunday Paper Inserts have MANY coupons and are the most helpful in saving LOTS of money! There are three inserts you will come across most often: Red Plum, Smart Source and Procter and Gamble. Ocassionally there will be others, but it's rare and mostly around major holidays. Every sunday new inserts come out (except on holidays). Sometimes there will be all 3, othertimes only one of the names mentioned above. If you would like to know which inserts will be in which weeks paper you can go here and check out BeCentsAble's detailed list.

Store coupons are for a certain store only. Target offers printable coupons on their website here. If you do not have a super target nearby, your regular target should still accept super target coupons. Occassionally if you sign up for store email lists they will email you coupons that not everyone else has access to, which can be great when you get a $5 off $20 purchase. Combined with other coupons, you can get quite a bit of free goods!! The best part about store coupons is you can STACK these with manufacture coupons for an even better deal (where FREE items come from most of the time). So when you have a store coupon, be sure to check and see if you have a manufacture coupon for the same product. *side note: when you stack coupons many times if the total for the coupons is MORE than the actual product, the store will price adjust the coupon down to the make the item free, rather than giving you "overage." For example: Say Target has colgate toothpaste on sale for $1.75 and you have a $1 man. coupon and a $1 target coupon... Instead of target paying you $.25 for buying the toothpaste, they will price adjust their coupon to $.75. Many times tho, you can give your coupons in a certain order and you will get the overage!! That is what makes stacking coupons so awesome.

Catalina Coupons are coupons, such as Register Rewards from Walgreens, that print out from a machine at the store after you complete your transaction. They are a manufacture coupon, so be sure to not try to stack them with another manufacture coupon.

Other places to find coupons and what they are:

~Inside boxes/bags of purchased items. Never throw away your packages until you double check inside. Many time inside female products, frozen foods, cleaning products and medicines you will find a coupon.

~Peelies on packages in stores.

~Hangtags on products in stores. Many times these are "try me free" tags -- which combined with a manufature coupon and a sale on the item, you can MAKE money with these kind of rebates!

~Blinkies are machines in stores on the shelf that you can take coupons from and it will spit out another one. Take a few of these when you see them. Many times this product will go on sale within a few weeks of seeing the blinkie machine, but the coupon will be gone by then!

~Mail in Rebates are always a great way to profit from buying a product. There are lots of rewards with mail in rebates as well. Mostly you will get cash back. Sometimes you will get numberous coupons in return. Sometimes they can be applied towards the purchase of another item. These can be found on products (like peelies and hangtags) and online.

~Magazines are a great place to find coupons. There are certain magazines that offer many coupons, such as All You, which can only be found at Walmart.

It's always a good idea to sign up for free samples from stores sites and register to get their store mailer sent by snail mail and email. Same goes for manufactures. Sign up to receive coupon books, recipes, free magazines, etc. Even Red Plum and Smart Source offer printable coupons.

Be sure to check back as I add more resources for online coupons and other great offers.

Walgreens 4/19-4/24

Since this is the first Walgreens post and it's late in the week, I'm going to sum it up as fast as I can. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment or email me anytime. I am more than happy to help in any way possible and if I don't know the answer, I'll find it for you!

So since the week it almost over and I'm late getting started (again, I'm SO sorry for this) I'm going to give you the best deals anyone can go get today, with or without having any coupons from the newspaper. With that said, my suggestion is starting this sunday buy 3-4 copies of the paper (EVERY SUNDAY) because when there is a good deal on something it's always best to have multiple copies of the coupon to get many of those items, especially when the item is FREE!

*BITS TO KNOW*
RR = Register Rewards
WYB = When You Buy
B1G1 or BOGO = Buy 1 Get 1
Q = Coupon
OOP = Out Of Pocket

*just so you know, when you buy an item that gives a RR, be prepared that sometimes it takes a minute to print out of the catalina machine, so don't leave right away. Give it a second and it will come. If it doesn't print, do not hesitate to ask the cashier or ask to speak to a manager. All of the RR items listed below are listed in the weekly flier, so grab one before you start to shop to make sure you are buying the RIGHT item/size/etc.*

Okay -- here we go:

$2/1 Post Trail Mix Crunch printable
Makes them $0.50 each after coupons

Sunsilk Shampoo/Conditioner
On clearance for $1.09 each
*this is a great way to use your RR from other items mentioned above and get FREE shampoo and conditioner*

Alright, this might seem overwhelming at first, so take it easy and make it simple the first time. Pick one or two items you are interested in, go and buy those and you will get the hang of it. From here on out, this list will be longer and more detailed to include actual "paper/manufacture coupons". Since I'm assuming majority of you are starting from scratch (meaning no coupons from the Sunday paper) I'm trying to make it easy for you to get started with printable coupons ONLY. If you would like to see what deals you can get if you DO have coupons from the paper, check out these other blogs -- BeCentsAble, Common Sense with Money and Deal Seeking Mom. These are all great blogs to check out for even more info!

NEXT UP -- LIL BITS about TARGET!!!! Be sure to check back this afternoon for some good Target deals even you newbies can get!!

Thanks for helping me help you "make every lil bit count!"

The Basic Bits of Walgreens

Ok before I start, there are a few things you need to know about Walgreens. Basically there are a few ways to save when shopping at Walgreens: The Weekly Flier, The EasySaver Catalog, Stacking Coupons and Register Rewards.

1- The Weekly Flier is obviously an advertisement for what their sales are that week, but also there are numerous coupons to be used. For example, the flier will have a coupon for Dawn Dish Soap for $.99, but in order to get it for that price the coupon must be used. Sometimes the salesperson will have one at the register and will scan it for you, but many times they won't. You wouldn't want to purchase the item at regular cost if it's on sale, so it's better to be prepared with your own coupon, but you don't have to cut it out to use it, just show it to the cashier and they will scan it. Also, that coupon might have a limit on it. For instance, the dawn dish soap coupon might say "limit 4" which means if you purchase 4 dawn soaps in one transaction, you can use only one coupon and it will ring all 4 soaps for $.99 automatically.

2- The EasySaver Catalog is a rebate booklet that can be found next to the store fliers inside the store, which are normally by the shopping carts. Be sure to grab one before you start to shop. This booklet has Walgreens coupons inside called Instant Value Coupons aka IVC. These compuons are considered "store coupons" so they can be stacked with manufature coupons for even bigger savings, which is how you get the item FREE some of the time. Again, you do not have to clip these coupons if you do not want to.

3- Stacking Coupons is allowed at Walgreens, but there is a catch. You must have the same number of items as you do coupons. For instance, you might have a Buy one candy, get one free coupon. So you pick up the 2 kinds of candy and you also have a store coupon for $1.00 off 2 candies PLUS a manufature coupon for $.25 off 1 candy. Well since you have 3 coupons, all for the same candy, but only 2 candies, you will need to grab what is referred to many times as a "filler" item to take place of the 3rd item to match with 3 coupons. It sounds more confusing that it is. It doesn't matter if you use 3 coupons for one item, you just have to have 3 items total in the transaction. Don't worry, I'll explain this more when we get to the deals.

4-Register Rewards, also referred to as RR's, is a coupon that will print out after you complete a transaction that is like getting cash to spend at Walgreens. You earn Register Rewards by buying the qualifying item that is listed in the weekly flier. There are usually only a few of these items per week, but some of them are great and FREE after RR, which is a total steal! There are two rules with Register Rewards: 1)You can not use a RR to buy the same product and get another RR! For example: If you buy chapstick for $1.99 and get $2 RR back, you can not turn around and use the $2 RR to buy another chapstick. The RR will not print. It must be used to purchase ANOTHER brand item. 2)In order to use the RR your total BEFORE tax must be equal or more than the RR. So, using the chapstick example... If I had a $3 RR from another product and the chapstick is $1.99 I can not use the RR on the chapstick because the total is less than the RR. So I would need to add a filler item to bring my total to $3 to use my $3 RR.

Now, you got that? Hope so, because it's time to GO!!!! So grab your coupons, sissors and let's get ready to SHOP!

*FREE* and SUPER CHEAP

So who of you think Walmart or Target is the best/cheapest place to buy things? You would never go to Walgreens or CVS (unless you need 1 thing and don't want to go thru the WHOLE store somewhere else just to get it) because they are so much more expensive? If any of you are like me, then this is a lesson worth learning....

We were wrong!!! WAYYYYYY wrong!

Walgreens and CVS might have higher prices on many things, but did you know they basically GIVE things away? They pretty much give you FREE items or FREE money to spend at their store -- ALL THE TIME! Bet ya didn't know that did you? Well it's true, and yes, I'm a moron for just now figuring it out. So if any of you DID know, pack yourself on the back and smile cuz you are one step ahead of me.

Let me put it simply.... have you been PAYING for toothpaste? What about cleaning products? Razors and razor blades? Shaving cream? Soap? Body wash? Medicine even? Tampons? I'm assuming the answer is YES to all of the above and if that is the case, now you REALLY need to pay attention.

I'm sure many of you are thinking "well yeah, but what's $2 for toothpaste, I only buy it once a month?" but truth is, toothpaste is more than $2 (if you pay attention to prices, which sadly, I didn't before now) and $24 a year might not seem like a LOT, but if you calculate ALL the items you purchase where you tell yourself "oh it's only $1 or $3" it adds up to a LOT. Plus, why would you want to pay for it when you can get it free just the same? I'd much rather apply that $24 a year towards a new shirt or something I'd RATHER spend my money on... wouldn't you?

If any of this sound intriguing or makes you a little more curious about how to get FREE stuff you've got to keep reading and checking back for all the tips I'm going to be sharing with you from here on out. I can't tell you the amount of FREE or REALLY cheap stuff I've been getting, with NO EXTRA hassle to get it. Did I mention I have 9, yes NINE, STEAKS in our freezer that cost me NOTHING?!? And I'll go ahead and share that I have 12 TWELVE 12 bottles of laundry detergent sitting in my laundry room that I paid less than $16 for TOTAL, IF EVEN that much. Yes people, I'm serious. Wouldn't you like to come home and show your husband how much stuff you got and how much money you saved instead of hiding the receipt and hoping he doesn't ask how much you spent this time? lol.... Don't try to deny that you're husband at some point hasn't had some comment about the money spent somewhere on something... even if it's not groceries and household goods. Lucky for my, my husband now says "so what'd ya steal today?" haha.... even tho it's not STEALING, it's just SMART SHOPPING -- and well, who doesn't LOVE a good bargain?

So in the next few days I'll be telling you about all the good stuff you can score for FREE or SUPER cheap at WALGREENS, CVS, TARGET, WALMART and eventually many other stores. Please email or comment and let me know what stores YOU normally shop at and I'll add that to my list to help you find the BEST deals at those places as well. Here in San Antonio we aren't as lucky as most of you to have so many grocery stores to choose from, so I need your help in figuring out which stores would be best for me to post about. Thanks in advance for your input!!

Okay, well it's time for your first WALGREENS lesson. So sit back and enjoy me doing the work and your reaping the beneifts..... LET'S GO!

4/21/09

Let the changes BEGIN!

You thought I fell off the face of the earth didn't you? Yeah, you thought I abandoned you guys and just left you hangin' -- Well I'm back and I'm about to change your life =) ha, well I hope "lil bits" of it anyway!!

I first want to apologize for being gone a while. I've been working on my blog for quite some time now, trying to figure out where to start. First I thought I needed to get the background done and figure all that stuff out, but that's proving to be a little more difficult that I thought (lol) so I've decided to go forward and figure things out as I go along. So don't be surprised to seem many changes in the next few days/weeks.

Okay then.... Moving right along...

Part of the changes will be me sharing with you guys how I have been getting all those great deals I've posted before (and many, many you guys don't even know about yet)!! Obviously what I will have to say/share/show you isn't some huge secret or even stuff you guys aren't already doing. I just know 2 months ago, I was clueless to how much money I was "wasting" when it came to buying groceries and other household goods we needed. No joke, we were averaging anywhere from $600-$800 a month on that stuff ALONE. That may come as a shock to some of you thinking how in the world could we be doing that, but it's the truth. With diapers, at least 4-6 gallons of a milk a week (yes, my boys loveeeeee milk!!), the cost of laundry detergent combined with the millions of loads I do a week, it all adds up. Plus, I've never been a "budget" kind of person. My husband, on the other hand, calculates things to the penny. (SOOOO NOT EXAGERATING HERE FOLKS -- he can tell me exactly how many miles I can go on a tank of gas at this price and how long that tank should last with driving here and there and etc. To top it off, he can do it in his head in .083 seconds! Blows my mind and goes WAY over my head lol)

With that said, I have completely found a new appreication for the dollar! Not saying before I just "threw it away like it grew on trees" (although I bet my mom and dad would beg to differ lol), but if we needed something, we bought it -- and then some! Who reading can relate? Have any of you walked out of the grocery store with $200 in groceries and get home to realize you really don't have much to speak of? Do any of you have to go back to the grocery store mid-week to grab those "few things" you forgot when you went the first time? How about throwing away food because it went bad before you ate it? I'm sooooooo guilty of all of the above!! At least I was...

Now, I come home from the grocery store and look at what I got in amazement! I can't believe I can get $52 worth of stuff for $.01 out of pocket!!! OH YES -- YOU READ THAT RIGHT!! And I have the receipt to prove it! lol.

Without dragging this on and on, I just wanted to try to explain, in whatever way I can, what I hope I can do for you guys. I'm still learning, but I just can't stand not sharing all these awesome "secrets" I have for SOOOO many different things in my (and hopefully YOURS too soon!) life!! This blog will not be dedicated to only one thing. I will be opening new doors and sharing so many new things that I can only hope will continue to enrich your lives and help you get to where you want to go. It doesn't matter if you are here to learn how to coupon and save money, or get more info about losing weight, or finding the best deals at stores around you, I want to help you in any way I can. So please, check back often and tell your friends about this place you've found online. This place you can sit back, relax and be yourself. No judgements. No critisism. Just understanding and openess about my life. My struggles. My failures and my successes.

Come in. Check it out. Save some money. Lose some weight. Gain some knowledge. Make a friend. Find some comfort. Get some secrets. Share some too. Be yourself.

Welcome to Lil' Bits of Life -- "Where Every Lil' Bit Counts"

4/8/09

***CHANGES COMING SOON***

Hey guys!! Well I'm so excited to share with you all my new plans for Lil' Bits of Life!!

For a while now I've been wanting to make this blog so much more than just showing pictures of my weight loss. At first, my only reason for starting this was to "chart" my progress and give others the proof they needed to see that what I was taking/selling works, but since losing the weight, I've gained so much more.

I've gained confidence I've never had before. I've gained faith in myself and Our Lord that I didn't know exsisted. I've gained respect for myself in ways I didn't think I deserved. I've gained a whole new outlook on this life I live and I'm lovin' every minute of it!!!

I've realized it's all about the "little things" and that those things are what make the "big things" matter. So here I am -- sharing my lessons on all the "Lil' Bits of Life!"

I hope I can do this blog justice and really help any and all of you see what you might be missing in your own life. I hope I can use this to speak to whomever wants/needs to read this and in any way possible, help you learn to love whatever "little thing" in your life you might be ignoring.

My plan is to keep selling the diet pills to help those of you who are looking for your "last resort" to losing those extra pounds that you just can't get off. I know what that's like. I've been there and I want to help you get here.

I plan to share my *steals and deals* every week for shopping, saving money, making money and getting TONS of FREE stuff. Put it this way, you might think you're doing pretty good by living on a budget, putting so much money aside each month, etc, but if you are paying for toothpaste -- you've still got a lot to learn! =)

I plan to advertise new products or companies and show you guys when and how to get the best of the best, at a price you can afford. Buying a car or buying a CD.... I want to show you where to go, how to do it and give you the peace of mind you need to know you got the best deal out there.

Since I know most of the people that read this are girls/women, of course this will be directed more towards women, but men are always welcome. I will share secrets for men to learn how to understand theirs wives and how to make sure their wife is always happy and never naggy..... HA! Who am I kidding? That's not possible.... even me, a female, can admit that....lol. But seriously, I plan to help the guys out there in any way I can so please feel free to comment or email with any question you might have.

Well guys, there is so much that needs to be said, but before I can do all that, I need to get busy on getting the changes underway. I really hope you all will help me out by clicking FOLLOW ME and letting your friends and family know about my new PLAN. I truly appreciate all the love and support from you all....

Thank you for giving me the extra push I've needed to move forward and finally follow my heart. This really is something I've been thinking about doing for a very long time and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to take two things I love the most (writing and helping people) and do something meaningful with them.

Every Lil' Bit counts.... now let me show you how every Lil' Bit matters!
